Distribution and biological peculiarities in Armenia: The species occupies Caucasus region of Eurasia, western and central Asia. Armenia is inhabited by subspeciesT. c. tauricus (Gmelin, 1784). In Armenian the species is distributed in alpine and subalpine habitat of the principal mountain ranges, occupying alpine meadows interspersed with rock outcroppings and talus and boulder-strewn slopes. Year-round resident. It breeds in the shelter of an overhanging roch, in crevices between boulders, or within a clump of Sheep’s Fescue (Festuca rupicola), having from 5 to 8 eggs in the clutch. The fledglings are observed in June-September. The food of the species is mainly seeds, roots, and bulbs of various herbs.
