Distribution and biological peculiarities in Armenia: The species occupies northwestern, northern and norteastern Europe, central and east Asia. The species is monotypic. In Armenian the species is distributed in Lake Arpi, throughout Lake Sevan basin, the Araks Valley, and at other reservoirs in central Armenia, occupying natural and man-made lakes with scattered clumps of Common Reed (Phragmites australis), sedges (Carex) and cattails (Typha), also river floodplains and valleys . The food of the species is mainly consisting of molluscs (especially Mytillus and Cardium spp., gastropods and zebra mussels Dreissena polymorph), crustaceans and aquatic insects, as well as grain and the seeds and vegetative parts of aquatic plants.
Population dynamics: According to the last estimation, population of the species makes from 50 to 100 breeding pairs. Population trend during last ten years demonstrates______________. The most probable reasons are supposed to be ___________________________________.
Conservation Measures: At current the breeding populations of the species are protected in ______________. Parts of the breeding and migratory ranges are included in the Emerald Network, protected under Bern Convention. The proposed conservation measures include increase of Emerald Sites for protection of the species.
